Hey there I'm Paul Miller and welcome to this course. You can think of this course as a repository of the lessons I've learned from over 10 years of consulting. I worked in the strategy consulting industry for nine years and I've worked as a freelance consultant for the last four years. I've also worked with several freelancers I've hired and I've seen from working with them and also hard lessons learned by going from consulting in a company to working on my own that the kinds of things you need to succeed as a freelancer are hard to learn. I try to break down what I've learned both from working with the freelancers that have worked for me and also share some lessons from projects I've done. Things like how long does it actually take to close a project when should you send a proposal? How do you think about pricing? How do you think about evolving the kind of work you do over time? How do you think about creating check-in documents, proposals, and products making sense of different information? I love exploring these things and wanted to just really break them down at a really simple level. This course will definitely

evolve over time. I'd love to hear feedback and questions from you and I'll probably create customized content based on people's questions. The fundamental goal in this course is to help you shift from thinking of yourself as a freelancer that gets paid to do a very specific type of work for a rate to somebody that can solve complex problems and is somebody that can partner with clients to help them solve the problems that they're facing and be a lot more flexible in how you work and what you work on and over time keep experimenting such that you can develop a type of work or types of projects that you want to do that are sustainable over the long term that's going to enable you to enjoy what you're doing and hopefully get paid as well.
